Jonathan Rhys Meyers
I had always known him for his smaller roles but he literally blew me away in The Tudors. So incredibly talented and not to mention one of the sexiest bad boys alive
Elizabeth, Queen of England. A court to worship you, a country to obey you, poems written celebrating your beauty, music composed in your honor, and they will mean nothing to you. I will mean nothing to you.
How could you ever be nothing to me? Robert…
Movie - 1998, starring Cate Blanchett as Elizabeth Tudor and Joseph Fiennes as Robert Dudley.
What I think of it: I liked it, this is the first movie I saw of them, so it have a sentimental element for me.
What I love about it: I love love love Cate as Elizabeth, the look of her and the way she have of portraying her, (even though the script didn’t gave her all the layers that is Elizabeth, I thought she gave everything she could). I love that Joseph looked so much like Robert physically and the struggle he had of loving her against everything, that it really seems like he loved her (at least for half a movie argh).
What I don’t like: And as for more that I love this movie for my sentimental reasons, I can’t for the life of me cherish it as I would want to because, HISTORY INACCURACIES, I know nothing is going to be exactly as it was (because even history has it’s inaccuracies), but this movie gosh!. No, Robert didn’t betrayed Elizabeth, they didn’t take paths away from each other, it was the full opposite of it, even if they DID had horrible arguments and they hurt each other, at the end of the day there they were… And all the other errors.
Favorite scenes/moments: All the dancing scenes, they were so beautiful done. The Sex scene (yes, sex is important. Right now I don’t care about the did they/did they not discussion). I love the scene when Elizabeth accept to invite the Duke of Anjou and Robert goes all jealous. I absolutely love the final scenes when they “fell apart” and Robert “betrayed” her and he is like: ‘I did this for us, I ask you to save some part of us!’ and all of that, for me is just tears from them on.
Do I recommend it?: Yes, but as an AU movie maybe, you have to have very clear your facts.
